Priority Admissions Process for GenCE Families

As member schools of Generations Christian Education (GenCE), Small World Christian Kindergarten (Small World), Norwegian International School, and Island Christian Academy (IslandCA) are greatly blessed by the opportunities for collaboration that this affiliation brings. One area in which this collaboration benefits our students is in admissions, as graduates of GeneCE Kindergartens have priority in admissions to GenCE Primary Schools, and participants in GenCE playgroups also have priority in admissions to GenCE Kindergartens.

For the last two years, Small World and IslandCA have implemented a Priority Admissions Process where, rather than formal interviews, teachers from IslandCA visit Small World in Term 1 to observe and assess the children in the classroom in collaboration with Small World teachers. Many of our families have chosen to apply for admission at IslandCA through this process, and we have been delighted to hear about how our graduates are developing and enjoying their time at IslandCA!

In the 2018-19 School Year, Small World students in Junior Kindergarten (equivalent to K1) will be able to apply for admission to IslandCA during Term 3 rather than in Term 1 of Senior Kindergarten (equivalent to K2), and successful applicants will receive IslandCA Year 1 placement offers prior to general applicants.

We hope that this helps to streamline the admissions process for our school community!

All classes remain suspended Tomorrow -19th Sept

After further consultation with Generations Christian Education, we have decided to continue to suspend all classes tomorrow (Wednesday, 19th Sept) until further notice due to concerns about safety in the immediate area. Our school will remain open for students who may need to return to school. Thank you for your kind attention and understanding.

All schools will continue to be suspended on Tuesday, September 18, 2018.

The Hong Kong Education Bureau (EDB) has announced that due to the varying degrees of impact of the strong Typhoon Mangkhut on schools and that public transport services have yet to return to normal, all schools are to be closed on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, in order to ensure the safety of students.

Monday, September 17 @ 5:30pm

[Update] Class Arrangement on Monday – 17h Sept

The government has indicated, that, regardless of the presence or absence of a weather warning, schools should not open until there has been a safety check completed.

After consulting with the Board and Generations,  we have decided that Small World Christian Kindergarten, along with other member schools, will be closed tomorrow. Please make arrangements for your child to be supervised at home or with family as there will not be supervision provided at school until we are able to ensure the campus is safe for staff and students to return.

This is not a normal procedure following bad weather but the significant damage and clean-up required in the community have obviously prompted the government to indicate that schools should take this extra step as a safety precaution.

We do understand that this may place some families in a challenging position but we also take our role in maintaining a high standard of safety, for both staff and students, very seriously.

PM Classes are Suspended Today – 12th Sept

As the Hong Kong Observatory expects that the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal no. 3 is to be issued between 11am and 1pm, the Education Bureau has announced that classes of PM kindergartens are suspended. Please check the radio, television or Hong Kong Observatory website for the up-to-date weather information.  Thank you for your attention.
